May 1 2014: Gerrard East Town Hall Meeting
From Paula Fletchers office:On Thursday May 1, I am holding a Town Hall meeting for Gerrard East residents to talk about a number of neighbourhood issues. We’ll cover:
• Fairford/Coxwell Redesign & Construction: The community has been working for years to get a realignment of the Fairford/Coxwell intersection to prevent commuters from pouring through the neighbourhood at rush hour. Construction will begin this spring. You will have a chance to look at the conceptual drawings, the greening and streetscape enhancements, and the road closures that will occur during construction
• Rail Garden Park: The creation of the Rail Garden has been a labour of love in Ashdale Village, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the great volunteers and Rail Garden Committee. This year, I was able to get traction with the City, get the work done to remediate the soil and build the beds, and finally designate the space as an official community garden and City park. Learn more about the plans at the Town Hall.
• Home Energy Loan Program (HELP): Our neighbourhood has been chosen to participate in a pilot project to support homeowners in making their homes greener and more efficient. HELP provides homeowners with a low-interest loan for home retrofits, which are then paid back over time through your property taxes. Staff will be on hand to give a presentation and answer your questions.
• Community Safety: Our new Police Superintendent Peter Yuen will be on hand to meet residents and hear your suggestions to improve community safety. This neighbourhood has taken great initiative to improve safety with Rally in the Alley, community clean-ups, and ongoing conversations and I’m sure you’ll have great input for 55 Division.
Mural Update: It was disappointing to see the wonderful mural at Gerrard & Highfield defaced, and I’ve been working with the City and BIA to come to a solution so the mural can be restored.
