“A Vespa scooter is mounted above the door of Gerrard Street’s new Italian restaurant, its headlight beckoning. Inside, brick walls are adorned with old radios, an accordion, and pictures of the Leaning Tower, and the chairs are studded red vinyl and chrome. Strands of outdoor lights are draped overhead, and tables are covered in brown craft paper awaiting saucy stains. The focus here is on simplistic Italian fare: gnocchi, eggplant parm, rigatoni Bolognese, and spaghetti and meatballs à la nonna. The Margherita pizza ($13) is good, but a bit heavier than usual on the cheese. The stuffed conchiglie ($16) are perfectly al dente. Complimentary bread and oil precede every meal, and a glass of the house red is only $6.50. It isn’t unlike a restaurant you might find on Mulberry Street in New York’s Little Italy, where the food plays a supporting role to the atmosphere—but a full house on a recent Saturday goes to show that the neighbourhood approves.” – TheGridTO
